Discover Catholic Schools in New England 2018!

11/1/2018

The Archdiocese of Boston is collaborating with other dioceses across New England to organize a week in the fall that boosts awareness of Catholic education in New England. This special week will officially be celebrated November 4 - 10, 2018, with the theme “Discover Today’s Catholic Schools.” This will be an opportunity to publicize and promote the benefits of Catholic education to people who have otherwise not considered it.

Unlike the typical Catholic Schools Week, which is organized by the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) and held in January, “Discover Today’s Catholic Schools” will focus on enrollment, marketing, and encouraging new families to join the Catholic school community. Hosting the week in the fall will also give families plenty of time to make enrollment decisions.

Why should a family consider a Catholic school? They provide high-quality academics, teach strong values, nurture students’ unique interests, and offer a wide range of curriculum options. Catholic schools foster a strong sense of community, and the students are treated with respect. The national high school graduation rate for Catholic schools is 99.3%, and the faith-based education creates well-rounded individuals who are prepared for their future, whether that involves pursuing a college education, following a vocation, or starting a career immediately after high school.

Why is a Catholic school good for the community? Based on the average public school per pupil cost of $11,066, the National Catholic Education Association calculates that Catholic schools provide $20 billion in savings to the nation each year. According to researcher David Campbell, “Catholic school graduates are more civically engaged, more tolerant of diverse views, and more committed to service as adults, and less likely to be incarcerated than their public-school peers."

As of 2017-2018, there are 374 Catholic schools in New England with an enrollment of 97,458 students.
